1st shipment of salt from India to arrive in Sri Lanka on Monday

Sri Lanka State Trading Corporation (STC) has announced that 4,500 metric tons of salt from India will arrive in Sri Lanka on January 27.

STC Chairman Ravindra Fernando stated that this marks the first batch of imported salt, with an additional 12,500 metric tons expected by January 31. Two importers have been authorized to import salt from India to meet the country’s demand.

The government decided to import salt following challenges faced by local salterns during the recent monsoon season. (NewsWire)
