22 Uni students suspended for ragging after Viral Video

The academic activities of 22 students from the South Eastern University of Sri Lanka in Oluvil have been suspended over an incident of ragging.

According to the university administration, a group of second and third-year students from the Engineering Faculty was involved in ragging several first-year students. 

A video of a group of freshmen being ragged had also been circulated on social media.

Following a preliminary inquiry conducted into the incident, the university decided to suspend the academic activities of the 22 students accused of ragging.

It is reported that a special committee consisting of university professors has been appointed to carry out a formal investigation into the incident and the Police have also launched a probe into the matter. 

This is the latest incident of ragging at a Sri Lankan University to be reported in the recent past. (Newswire)
