The Haldummulla Police have arrested a suspect for defrauding money by posting advertisements of vehicles for sale on social media.
The suspect was arrested by a team of officers from the Haldummulla Police Station in Balangoda town yesterday (28 May).
The Police say this suspect had posted advertisements on social media stating that he had three-wheelers and motorcycles for sale, and had then defrauded by withdrawing advance payments made to his bank account.
The arrest was made based on investigations launched into a complaint filed on financial fraud.
The suspect is a 29-year-old resident of Balangoda.
Investigations have found that this suspect has defrauded individuals in various areas such as Haldummulla, Samanalawewa, Kegalle and Kandy of approximately Rs. 200,000.
The Haldummulla Police are conducting further investigations to uncover information regarding other frauds committed by the suspect. (Newswire)
