3 dead in two separate train accidents on Friday

A 69-year-old man from Kinihirigama, Kekirawa, died after the motorcycle he was traveling on collided with the Udaya Devi train at the Habarana Bellankadawala byway on Friday(15). The train was traveling from Batticaloa to Colombo Fort.

The pillion rider died at the scene, and the rider was hospitalized with serious injuries. The body has been placed in the Dambulla Hospital mortuary, and Habarana Police are conducting further investigations.

Meanwhile, in the evening yesterday, a small lorry collided with a train traveling from Matara to Galle at the Weligama Denipitiya road, despite warning signals being active. The driver, a 32-year-old man, and his 82-year-old father, both from Telijjawila, Kirimatimulla, died after being admitted to Matara Hospital.

The driver’s wife, mother, two children, and a nephew sustained serious injuries and are receiving treatment. The bodies have been placed in the Matara Hospital mortuary, and Weligama Police are conducting further investigations. (NewsWire)
