Cabinet approves two key appointments

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved two key appointments aimed at strengthening national services and ensuring government revenue targets are met.

M.S.P. Sooriyapperuma, a special grade officer of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service, has been appointed as the Acting Commissioner General of Registration of Persons. The post has remained vacant since 24th September 2024.

Mrs. Sooriyapperuma is currently serving as the Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Public Defence and will assume her new responsibilities immediately.

Meanwhile, the Cabinet has also approved the appointment of U.D.N. Jayaweera as the new Commissioner General of Excise, replacing J.M. Gunasiri, who was serving in this role on a contract basis.

The Department of Excise plays a crucial role in government revenue collection, the Government said, and Jayaweera, an experienced officer from the Inland Revenue Service, is expected to lead the department in achieving its revenue goals while ensuring good governance. (Newswire)
