Former Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shani Abeysekara has returned to the police force on a contractual basis as the Director of the Central Criminal Intelligence Analysis Bureau.
National Police Commission had approved the nomination made by the Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP).
Abeysekara previously served as the Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
He was the lead investigator into the Easter Sunday attacks, with his findings implicating several state agencies, which led to tensions with influential individuals.
Abeysekara supported President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in the last Presidential Election, joining the NPP’s retired police collective. (NewsWire)
