Former Foreign Minister Ali Sabry has warned of the impacts of policy changes, citing national carrier SriLankan Airlines as an example.
Taking to ‘X’, the former minister said; “Policy inconsistency has played a significant role in leading us to where we are today”.
“When the Indian government made the decision to privatize Air India, our government insisted on keeping SriLankan Airlines under state control purely for reasons of national pride. This brings to mind the situation in 2008 when we terminated the Emirates management contract for similar reasons,” he reminded.
Former MP Ali Sabry pointed out that as a result of these moves, Sri Lanka is now grappling with an accumulated loss of $1.2 billion.
He made the remarks while responding to a statement on ‘X’, which had claimed that the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) had decided to suspend the previous government’s open bidding for fuel procurement. (Newswire)
