Advisory issued for heavy rains today:
The Met Department says showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Northwestern and Northern provinces and the Trincomalee district.
Heavy showers above 100 mm are likely in some places in the Southern province and fairly heavy showers above 50mm are likely in some places.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the other areas of the island during the evening or night.
Advisory issued for sea area:
A low-pressure area is likely to form over the East-Central Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Andaman Sea by the next 24 hours.
After that, it is very likely to move West-Northwestwards and intensify into a depression around 0000 UTC on 22nd October and into a cyclonic storm by 23rd October 2024 over East-central Bay of Bengal.
Temporarily very strong winds of about 70-80 kmph accompanied by heavy rainfalls and very rough seas are likely in the above sea areas. (Newswire)
