Bangladesh allrounder Shakib Al Hasan has been asked by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to undergo an analysis of his bowling action after being reported by umpires during his brief stint with Surrey in the County Championship.
The 37-year-old featured for Surrey in a closely contested match against Somerset at Taunton in September, claiming an impressive nine wickets in what marked his return to the County Championship after more than a decade—his last appearance being with Worcestershire during the 2010-11 season.
While Shakib is not suspended from playing, ESPN Cricinfo said that discussions are underway for him to undergo further testing at an approved facility. The analysis is expected to take place within the next two weeks.
Shakib’s performance in the match had drawn significant attention, but the subsequent report by the umpires has now led to this procedural review of his bowling action, aimed at ensuring it complies with ECB regulations.
