The Court of Appeal has upheld the sentence of 4 years of rigorous imprisonment of former Deputy Minister Shantha Premaratne for soliciting and accepting a bribe.
In 2017, the Colombo High Court sentenced Shantha Premaratne for soliciting and accepting a bribe of Rs.50,000 with the promise of employment.
The court found him guilty of accepting the bribe from a woman promising to get her a job in the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) in 2007.
However, he was found guilty and sentenced based on a case filed by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption. (Newswire)
