Showers are expected in some parts of Sri Lanka today, according to the Department of Meteorology.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Northern and North-Central Provinces and the Puttalam and Trincomalee districts.
Fairly heavy showers above 50mm are likely at some places in the Northern Province.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in Central, Sabaragamuwa, Uva and Southern provinces in the evening or night.
Meanwhile, Showers will occur at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Trincomalee via Kankasanthurai.
Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the other sea areas around the Island during the evening or night.
Winds will be North-westerly or variable in direction in the sea areas around the island. Wind speed will be 20-30 kmph and wind speed can increase up to 40 kmph in the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Trincomalee via Kankasanthurai and wind speed can increase up to 45-50 kmph in the sea areas extending from Galle to Hambantota via Matara.
The sea areas off the coasts extending from Galle to Hambantota via Matara can be fairly rough at times. Other sea areas around the island will be slight to moderate. Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers. (Newswire)
