The atmospheric conditions are favourable for afternoon thundershowers in most parts of Sri Lanka today.
According to the Department of Meteorology, showers or thundershowers will occur in most parts of the island after 2.00 p.m.
Showers or thundershowers may occur in the Northern and Eastern provinces and the Hambantota district in the morning.
Heavy showers of about 100 mm are likely at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces and Badulla, Galle and Matara districts. Fairly heavy showers of about 75 mm are likely elsewhere.
Misty conditions can be expected at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva provinces and Galle and Matara districts in the morning.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Mannar to Batticaloa via Kankasanthurai and Trincomalee.
Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in the other sea areas around the island during the evening or night.
Winds will be North-easterly to North-westerly or variable in direction in the sea areas around the island. Wind speed will be 25-35 kmph in the sea areas around the island.
The sea areas around the island will be slight to moderate. Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers. (Newswire)
