The Sri Lanka Navy dispatched relief teams to the Akuressa and Athuraliya areas in the Matara district due to the inclement weather conditions prevalent in the country.
The relief teams are currently working to provide necessary aid and support to affected communities.
As a result of heavy rainfall, the Nilwala River has reached its overflow levels and to address the ensuing flood risk, 03 Navy flood relief teams, with lifesaving equipment, were deployed to the flood-risk areas.
Relief teams, equipped with dinghies, also facilitated transportation to communities in the Athuraliya, Balakawala and Arampathwala of Akuressa, enabling them to carry out their daily activities.
The Navy also ensured the safe ferrying of school children appearing for the GCE Advanced Level Examination yesterday, addressing their transportation requirements efficiently.
In addition, 134 Navy relief teams are on standby, prepared to be deployed immediately to assist the public in the event of flooding. (Newswire)
