A heated situation erupted in Parliament today when Jaffna district MP Dr. Archchuna Ramanathan charged that he was assaulted in Parliament outside the Opposition Leader’s office.
Raising a point of order during this evening’s Parliament session, MP Ramanathan said that he was assaulted by a person named Sujith.
“I went to the Opposition Leader’s office to inquire about the time allocated for me, when a person named Sujith assaulted me.”
“If this happens within Parliament, how are we to go out there in the streets?” Ramanathan questioned.
The MP was instructed to lodge a complaint with the Speaker into the incident.
Responding the accusation, MP Nalin Bandara said that MP Ramanathan behaved inappropriately at the Opposition Leader’s office.
“The Jaffna district independent MP is speaking about a situation where he behaved inappropriately and even resorted to using foul language. This incident should be looked into,” Bandara said.
MP Bandara said that a complaint has been lodged in this regard and also requested to make arrangements for MP Ramanathan to sit elsewhere in Parliament.
“Unsuitable MPs should not be seated with the Opposition. Arrangements should be made for them to sit elsewhere,” he said. (Newswire)
