Dead Dolphins found on Wilpattu coastline under investigation

Ada Derana

The carcasses of 11 dolphins were discovered along the coastal boundary of Wilpattu National Park, prompting an investigation by wildlife authorities.

Wildlife veterinary officers Chandana Jayasinghe and W.L.U. Madhuwanthi conducted post-mortem examinations, suspecting the dolphins became entangled in fishing nets before being washed ashore.

Their findings were presented to the Puttalam Magistrate’s Court on January 7. Tissue samples have been sent to the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Peradeniya for further analysis to confirm the cause of death.  (Newswire)
