Former Sri Lankan Ambassador to Russia, Udayanga Weeratunga, who was arrested over the assault of a neighbor, has been remanded until January 17.
The victim, 66-year-old Liyanage Sarath Chandrasiri, sustained severe facial injuries, including a fractured nose, after being struck with a plastic pipe during an altercation over a boundary wall dispute on Cemetery Road, Thalapathpitiya, Nugegoda.
The assault, which occurred on January 9, was captured on a CCTV camera installed at the premises.
Weeratunga was arrested by the Mirihana Police earlier today (10) and produced before the Nugegoda Magistrate’s Court, where he was ordered to be remanded. (Newswire)
