Police investigations reveal the shooting reported in front of the Mannar Magistrate’s Court today was a result of a long-standing dispute between two groups, with the recent dispute over Thirikkal racing.
Unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire at four persons who were reporting to the Mannar Magistrate’s Court over a case, following which two persons were reported dead and two were injured.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the victims were suspects involved in a double murder over a clash that had occurred during Thirikkal racing in the Uyilankulam area in June 2022.
The 42-year-old victim who had died in today’s shooting was the main suspect in the murders and had been released on bail by the Mannar Court.
However, he had escaped being shot by unidentified gunmen from the other party near the Uyilankulam cemetery in February 2024.
The Police suspect today’s attack was a retaliation of the previous long-standing dispute between the two groups. (Newswire)
