Major Injury scare for Australia ahead of Sri Lanka series

Stand-in Test captain Steven Smith has raised concerns for Australia ahead of the Sri Lanka series after sustaining an elbow injury during a Big Bash League match.

Smith, who previously underwent surgery on his right elbow in 2019, sustained the injury while fielding for the Sydney Sixers during their rain-affected game against the Sydney Thunder on Friday.

The injury has delayed Smith’s departure for the team’s training camp in Dubai, as he seeks evaluation from a specialist. Cricket Australia said Smith remains optimistic about joining the squad later this week. (Newswire)
