Police investigations reveal that the shooting reported in Mount Lavinia yesterday, in which a 24-year-old youth was killed, was a result of a long-standing dispute between two underworld figures.
Unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle had opened fire at the youth at Siripala Mawatha in Mount Lavinia and he had succumbed to injuries while receiving treatment in hospital.
Police investigations have revealed the victim was a close associate of a notorious underworld figure currently believed to be hiding in Dubai.
The 47-year-old suspect who was arrested in connection to the shooting has been identified as a member of another notorious underworld figure’s gang.
The Police have also found the motorcycle and helmet used in the shooting abandoned in the Atthidiya area in Mount Lavinia.
The Mount Lavinia Police has launched a probe to apprehend the other suspect involved in the shooting.
Stating that a long-standing dispute between the two underworld figures had resulted in the shooting, the Police said the death toll due to this dispute between the two gangs has now increased to 7 with yesterday’s killing. (Newswire)
