Showers are expected in several parts of Sri Lanka today, with fairly heavy showers of about 50 mm expected in some places, according to the Department of Meteorology.
Several spells of showers will occur in the Uva and Southern provinces and the Ampara, Batticaloa, Matale and Nuwara-Eliya districts. A few showers may occur in the Northern and North-Central provinces and the Trincomalee district.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and the Kurunegala district in the evening or night and fairly heavy showers of about 50 mm can be expected at some places.
Fairly strong winds of 30-40 kmph can be expected at times over the Eastern slope of the central hills and Northern, North-central and North-western provinces and in the Matale district.
Misty conditions can be expected in some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Southern provinces and the Badulla district during the morning.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Batticaloa to Colombo via, Hambantota and Galle.
Winds will be north-easterly and speed will be 25-35 kmph. Wind speed can increase up to 45 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam and Mannar and from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota.
The sea areas off the coasts extending from Colombo to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam and Mannar and from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota may be fairly rough at times.
