Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne informed Parliament today (Feb. 5) that he has not yet received the Supreme Court’s ruling on petitions challenging the Local Government Elections (Special Provisions) Bill.
His statement came in response to a query from Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa.
The Supreme Court had announced on Jan. 27 that its decision would be confidentially sent to both the President and the Speaker.
However, MP Dayasiri Jayasekara noted that Cabinet Spokesman Minister Nalinda Jayathissa previously stated the Speaker had received the ruling and would announce it today. (Newswire)
