This vital sector, currently generating $1.2 billion annually, is poised for explosive growth, targeting a $5 billion revenue by 2030. This ambitious goal is not just a dream; it’s a strategic vision being driven by a powerful collaboration between the public and private sectors.

We are particularly excited about the newly established IT Industry Development Advisory Group, which recently held its inaugural meeting. This group, under the leadership of Hon. Eng. Eranga Weeraratne, Deputy Minister of Digital Economy, Mr. Waruna Sri Dhanapala, Acting Secretary to the Ministry, and Dr. Hans Wijayasuriya, Chief Advisor to the President on Digital Economy cum ICTA Chairman, is tasked with charting the course for this transformative growth.

The Advisory Group’s mission is clear: to provide expert guidance and strategic advice to the Ministry of Digital Economy, fostering innovation, competitiveness, and sustainable growth within the IT sector.

Its key objectives include:

• Developing a comprehensive roadmap to achieve the $5 billion target.

• Addressing growth barriers like talent shortages and infrastructure limitations.

• Promoting innovation, entrepreneurship, and investment.

• Facilitating digital technology adoption across industries.

• Monitoring progress and recommending adjustments as needed.

The first meeting of the IT Industry Development Advisory Group recently took place under the leadership of Eng. Eranga Weeraratne Deputy Minister of Digital Economy, Mr. Waruna Sri Dhanapala, Acting Secretary to the Minisrty of Digital economy, and Dr. Hans Wijayasuriya, Chief Advisor to the President on Digital Economy cum ICTA, Chairman.

Among the participants from the industry and industry organisations were Mr. Nishan Mendis, Ms. Shehani Seneviratne, Mr. Feroze Cader, Mr. Ashique Ali, Mr. Indika De Zoysa, Mr. Thariq Samoon, Dr. Dayan Rajapaksa, Mr. Alanzo Dole, Mr. Heshan Karunaratne, Ms. Indumini Kodikara and Mr. Prasanjith Wijetilleke.

ICTA Board members Mr. Chandima Cooray, Mr. Sanjaya Karunasena, Mr. Bandula Ranathunga, Mr. Harsha Purasinghe and Mr. Samisa Abeysinghe were also present.
