In a dramatic rescue operation, police officers and lifeguards saved 11 children from drowning near the Panadura beach, while one child remains missing.
The incident occurred on the evening of February 12, when 12 children, who had gone swimming near the site of a capsized boat, were caught in a strong current. Officers from the Panadura South Police Lifesaving Unit, including Police Constables 33628 Lakmal and 101557 Dhanuka, along with lifeguards, managed to pull 11 children to safety.
Search operations are ongoing to locate the missing child, an 18-year-old resident of Keselwatta, Panadura. The rescued children, aged between 12 and 20, are from Panadura and Panamura.
Panadura South Police are continuing efforts to find the missing child while urging the public to exercise caution when swimming in the area. (NewsWire)
