MP Dilith Jayaweera challenged the foreign travel costs of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake revealed in Parliament, calling the figures unrealistic.
Responding to figures revealed in Parliament today, showing a sharp drop in presidential travel expenses, Jayaweera questioned how the President managed to visit three countries on just Rs. 1.8 million.
“The Prime Minister claims foreign travel costs have been reduced. I don’t know how he traveled to three countries with such a low amount—even if he traveled on the footboard,” he remarked.
During the past five months in office, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake travelled to India, China and the UAE.
Jayaweera said that cutting costs alone does not generate profits and urged the government to focus on revenue generation.
“How do we balance the budget deficit? How will we repay our debt? We must not deceive ourselves,” the MP questioned. (Newswire)
