Suspended Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon has been remanded until April 3 after he was produced before the Matara Magistrate’s Court today.
Tennakoon, who had an open warrant issued for his arrest, surrendered to court yesterday (March 19) accompanied by his lawyers.
His surrender came 20 days after the warrant was issued.
On February 27, the court ordered the arrest of Tennakoon and seven others in connection with the 2023 shooting incident at a prominent hotel in Weligama.
Tennakoon had previously sought an interim injunction against his arrest, but the Court of Appeal recently dismissed his writ petition without hearing it.
Following this, Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officers conducted searches at multiple locations, including his residence, but failed to locate him. (Newswire)
