Showers or thundershowers are expected at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, and North-western provinces, as well as in Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts, the Department of Meteorology said.
Fairly heavy rainfall above 50mm is likely in parts of Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Matara districts.
Several spells of showers may also occur in Anuradhapura, Matale, and Mannar districts, while evening or night showers are expected in Uva province and in Ampara, Batticaloa, and Polonnaruwa districts, the Department said.
Winds will be westerly to south-westerly at 30-40 kmph, strengthening up to 60 kmph in coastal areas from Mannar to Puttalam and Matara to Pottuvil. Sea conditions will be rough at times along these coastal stretches.
The public is advised to take precautions against strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Additionally, the sun will be directly overhead in areas including Maningamuwa, Rambewa, and Muthur around 12:11 p.m. today as it moves northward over Sri Lanka. (Newswire)
