The Mahajana Eksath Peramuna (MEP) led by Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena has announced its support for President Ranil Wickremesinghe in the 2024 Presidential Election.
Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena’s party is the latest political party to pledge its support for President Wickremesinghe.
Ninety-two Members of Parliament have already extended their support for the President in the upcoming presidential election. The MPs had pledged their support after meeting with President Ranil Wickremesinghe this week.
Prominent Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) members, such as Bandula Gunawardena, Kanchana Wijesekera, Prasanna Ranatunga, Kanaka Herath, Mahindananda Aluthgamage, and S.M. Chandrasena are also among the current Parliamentarians who have pledged their support for the President.
Former MP Vajira Abeywardana and the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) faction led by Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva also announced their decision to extend support for President Ranil Wickremesinghe in the upcoming Presidential Election.
Earlier yesterday, a group of 116 former Provincial Council members from the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) and the United National Party (UNP) also pledged their support for President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
The Presidential Election is scheduled for September 21 this year, while Nominations will be accepted on 15th August. (Newswire)
