Two individuals were killed in separate motorcycle accidents reported in Attanagalla and Piliyandala on May 18.
In the first incident, a motorcycle travelling from Attanagalla towards Alawala on the Attanagalla-Alawala road collided with a lorry coming from the opposite direction while attempting to overtake a three-wheeler. The pillion rider, a 25-year-old woman from Galapitamada, succumbed to her injuries after being admitted to the Wathupitiwala Hospital. The lorry driver has been arrested and investigations are ongoing by Attanagalla Police.
In the second incident, along the Madapatha-Piliyandala road in the Piliyandala police division, a motorcycle attempting to turn into a by-road was rear-ended by another motorcycle. The rider of the first motorcycle, a 33-year-old man from Polgasowita, died upon admission to the Piliyandala Hospital. The other rider is currently receiving treatment at the Werahera Army Hospital.
