Railway services along the Batticaloa Line were disrupted today after a passenger train derailed following a collision with a wild elephant between Hatharas Kotuwa and Habarana stations.
According to railway sources, the train derailed after it struck an elephant that had entered the tracks in a forested area.
No injuries to passengers have been reported, but railway officials confirmed that services along the line have been temporarily suspended due to the derailment. (Newswire)
