Minister of Trade Wasantha Samarasinghe says he has requested the authorities to develop an A-grade stadium in Thambuttegama.
“Since Anuradhapura is a little far, everything arrives there late. Cricket was available in Colombo, but it reached Anuradhapura much later,” he said, addressing a gathering.
“Based on a request from the President as well, I have asked that the Thambuttegama ground be developed into an A-grade ground,” he added.
The minister further stated that the government would intervene to ensure the Anuradhapura district receives the same facilities as Colombo.
“We want to see players from Anuradhapura, a land of giants, hitting giant sixes. We want to see them represented in the national cricket team,” he concluded. (NewsWire)
