The signing of the bilateral agreement between Sri Lanka and France regarding the external debt restructuring process took place yesterday, marking a significant milestone in Sri Lanka’s efforts to achieve debt sustainability, the Ministry of Finance said.
The Finance Ministry said Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Mahinda Siriwardana, signed on behalf of Sri Lanka and Assistant Secretary for Multilateral Affairs, Trade and Development Policies at the Directorate-General of the Treasury, William Roos, signed on behalf of France.
Issuing a statement, the Finance Ministry said that France has played a pivotal role in Sri Lanka’s debt restructuring journey, co-chairing the Official Creditor Committee alongside Japan and India. “Its leadership and constructive engagement have been instrumental in helping Sri Lanka navigate the complexities of economic reform and recovery.”
The Ministry of Finance further said that this spirit of cooperation has enabled Sri Lanka to make meaningful progress toward restoring debt sustainability.
The ministry added that the conclusion of the Exchange of Notes and signing of the Agreement will certainly pave the way to developing further the deep and longstanding bilateral relationships between the Governments of France and Sri Lanka. (Newswire)
