A 32-year-old man from Uduwa, Kandy, was arrested by Hataraliyadda Police on June 20 for possessing counterfeit currency.
Police said the suspect attempted to use a fake 5,000-rupee note at a local shop, prompting a complaint that led to his arrest. Officers found three counterfeit 5,000-rupee notes, two fake 500-rupee notes, and two fake 100-rupee notes in his possession.
A search of the suspect’s home uncovered several printed sheets believed to be used in the production of counterfeit money, including nine sheets for 50-rupee notes, four for 100-rupee notes, four for 500-rupee notes, and six for 5,000-rupee notes.
Further investigation led police to a suspected printing location in Galagedara, where they seized a computer and printer believed to have been used in the operation. The suspect was not present at the site.
Police said the investigation is ongoing. (Newswire)
