2 Sri Lankans among 149 arrested in Pakistan scam call centre

Two Sri Lankans are among 149 individuals arrested by Pakistani authorities following a major raid on a scam call centre in Faisalabad, the country’s National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) confirmed on Thursday.

The raid, carried out after a tip-off, uncovered a large-scale fraudulent operation involved in Ponzi schemes and fake investment scams, according to NCCIA officials. Victims were reportedly tricked into transferring vast sums of money under the guise of high-return investment opportunities.

Among those arrested were 78 Pakistani nationals, 48 Chinese, eight Nigerians, four Filipinos, six Bangladeshis, two Myanmar nationals, one Zimbabwean, and the two Sri Lankans.

Authorities said the international nature of the scam highlighted the need for cross-border cooperation in tackling cyber and financial crimes. Investigations are ongoing.
