Rain is expected in some areas of Sri Lanka today, with fairly heavy showers above 50 mm likely in some places, according to the Department of Meteorology.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and Galle and Matara districts. Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places elsewhere on the island during the evening or night.
Fairly strong winds of about 30-40 kmph can be expected at times over the Western slopes of the central hills and in North-western province and Ampara, Monaragala and Hambantota districts.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Hambantota via Galle. Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the other sea areas around the island during the afternoon or night.
Winds will be south-westerly and wind speed will be 30-40 kmph. Wind speed can increase up to 50-55 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Galle to Batticaloa via Matara, Hambantota and Pottuvil.
