Former Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara commended the national team for their performance in the first Test against England, despite a five-wicket loss. Speaking to Sky Sports, Sangakkara highlighted the standout batting efforts of Kamindu Mendis and Dinesh Chandimal, whose partnership set England a challenging target of over 200 runs. He also praised the team’s disciplined bowling and captain Dhananjaya De Silva’s tactical field placements in the 2nd innings.
However, Sangakkara pointed out areas needing improvement, including the need for better fast-bowling support for Asitha Fernando and a more consistent top order. He noted that while Dimuth Karunaratne showed promise, selectors might consider options for Madushka.
“I thought captain Dhananjaya was was on point. However, I think there are a few areas they need to work on fast bowling support for Asitha Fernando needs to be looked at. The top order Batting needs to be looked up, I thought Dumith Karunaratne shaped up well, but there might be options for Madushka” Sangakkara said. (Newswire)
