National People’s Power (NPP) MP Harini Amarasuriya says the NPP intends to dissolve Parliament on September 22, utilizing constitutional provisions that empower the President to do so.
“We see no reason to engage with these thieves even for a day. The President has the constitutional authority to appoint a new cabinet and secretaries. On the 22nd, Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake will make the best decision for our country, and we are prepared with the necessary arrangements,” Amarasuriya said.
According to the MP, under an NPP President, the Cabinet and Prime Minister would be removed immediately, and the necessary legal consultations have been conducted.
Speaking to the media, Amarasuriya dismissed talks of a caretaker government as an attempt to create further uncertainty. Responding to questions raised by journalists, she said that Ranil Wickremesinghe’s presidential campaign focused on creating confusion.
When asked about President Wickremesinghe’s recent statements, Amarasuriya questioned his ability to appoint a cabinet capable of following the five precepts.
“He has spoken of Theravada economics, before that he must be asked to appoint a cabinet which is capable of following the five precepts,” Amarasuriya said. (Newswire)
