An individual has been arrested in Katugastota, Kandy, for attempting to stage a fake fuel queue, following an investigation by the police and election observers, Lankadeepa newspaper reported.
The individual had allegedly arranged for a large group of three-wheel drivers to gather near a fuel station under the false pretense that foreign tourists needed their services.
Meanwhile, around 50 to 60 estate workers from Digana were reportedly paid Rs. 2500 each to pose as if they were waiting in line.
According to police, the entire scheme was orchestrated to be filmed as part of a hoax, allegedly organized on behalf of a presidential candidate. (Newswire)
