The National Election Commission has clarified that presidential candidates are prohibited from canvassing votes for other candidates, stressing that it is illegal.
Commissioner General of Elections Saman Ratnayake, addressing the media, stated that such actions are not only unlawful but also unethical.
“Not only is it illegal but it is also unethical. Public are aware of what these candidates are doing, therefore the public must decide for themselves,” he said, stressing that voters must make their own judgments about the candidates involved.
The Commissioner General of Elections also expressed concern over the recent government announcement on public sector salary revisions, noting that it could potentially affect the ongoing postal voting process. (Newswire)
