A search operation conducted by the Navy in the beach area of Serakkuliya, Puttalam on 06th September 2024 led to the recovery of 35470 Pregabalin capsules concealed in shrubs.
The Sri Lanka Navy remains ever alert and conducts regular operations in the coastal and beach areas with a view to preventing the influx of illegal items into the country.
As an extension of these efforts, the operation was carried out by SLNS Thambapanni of the Northwestern Naval Command and SLNS Gajaba belonging to the North Central Naval Command in the beach vicinity of Serakkuliya. During the operation, naval personnel discovered two suspicious boxes hidden in the bushes, containing 35,470 Pregabalin capsules. It is suspected that the prescription drugs were smuggled into the country via sea routes.
The recovered stock of prescription drugs has been kept in the safe custody of the Navy until it is handed over to authorities for legal proceedings.
Including the recent operation, the Navy has seized 136798 prescription drugs thus far in 2024 and handed them over to authorities for legal action. (Navy)
