A 29-year-old Indian National businessman was arrested by Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officers at the immigration terminal of Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) for attempting to smuggle over 1 kg of gold out of the country.
The gold, valued at approximately Rs. 30 million, was concealed in the pocket of his trousers. The suspect, a frequent traveler, was found with 9 gold biscuits weighing 1 kg and 158 grams each, along with 3 small pieces of gold.
He was apprehended while moving from the departure terminal to the immigration area. The CID has handed him and the seized gold over to airport customs for further investigation. (NewsWire)
