National People’s Power (NPP) leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake has responded to the ongoing controversy surrounding his comments during a recent visit to Jaffna, where he was accused of making threatening remarks toward the Northern population. Dissanayake dismissed the criticism, asserting that Tamil National Alliance (TNA) spokesman MP MA Sumanthiran has already provided the correct response.
“I don’t need to respond to Ranil Wickremesinghe since MP Sumanthiran has already given the correct reply. It’s Ranil who should apologize for attempting to stir up racism,” Dissanayake said, defending his remarks and turning the accusation back on the President.
Dissanayake’s response follows President Wickremesinghe’s call for an apology, accusing the NPP leader of threatening the Northern people. However, Sumanthiran had earlier defended Dissanayake, stating that the remarks were not made with racist intent and that he knew Dissanayake to be committed to eradicating racism in the country.
