Seven Syrian nationals attempting to travel to Italy with forged UAE passports were apprehended at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) today.
Lankadeepa newspaper reported that the seven Syrians, belonging to two families, had attempted to fly to Rome, Italy, using the forged passports.
After security clearance, the travellers approached the immigration counters at BIA, where immigration officials inspected the documents thoroughly due to suspicions.
The group was then referred to the airport’s Border Surveillance Unit, where it was confirmed that the passports were forged.
During interrogation, it was revealed that the passports were forged in Turkey at a cost of USD 2,000 each. (Newswire)
