Voting concludes : When can we expect the first result?

Voting in Sri Lanka’s Presidential Election concluded at 04.00 pm today. 

Nearly, 17,140,354 voters exercised their voting rights at 13,421 polling stations across the island.

According to the National Election Commission, the first result of the election, which is the postal votes, is expected to be released before midnight today.

The Election Commission further said that it hopes to complete announcing the election results by tomorrow (Sep 22), even if it enters counting preferential votes.

“Postal vote counting will begin around 4.30 to 5.00 PM, and we expect to release the first postal results before midnight today,” Election Commission officials said. (Newswire)
