Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has officially been named the Prime Ministerial candidate of the ‘Samagi Jana Sandhanaya’ (SJB) for the upcoming General Election.
The decision was unanimously approved during a party meeting, solidifying his leadership within the coalition.
Premadasa also clarified that there is no collaboration between himself and former President Ranil Wickremesinghe, dispelling recent rumours of an alliance.
The SJB is now gearing up for the election with Premadasa leading their campaign.
Premadasa also took the opportunity to express his gratitude to supporters following his electoral loss in the recently concluded presidential election.
In a heartfelt message, Premadasa acknowledged the support he received from various communities across the country, including Sinhalese, Tamil, Muslim, and Burgher, and said that his commitment to Sri Lanka’s progress will continue.
“Whether you belong to the Sinhalese, Tamil, Muslim, Burgher, or any other community and regardless of the political ideology you subscribe to, I have felt your hopes, and I carry them with me,” Premadasa said.
Premadasa said his dedication to building a unified and prosperous Sri Lanka remains unchanged. “I remain as dedicated as ever to the dream of a united and prosperous Sri Lanka, where every child is given the chance to flourish, where every community feels like they belong, and where every heart is at peace,” he said.
“Thank you for believing in me, and I promise, I will not stop fighting for the future we deserve,” Premadasa added.
Premadasa’s message comes after a highly contested election that saw NPP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake emerge victorious. (Newswire)
