Nominations for the Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha in the 2024 Local Government Elections will close today.
The National Election Commission announced that nominations will be accepted at the Galle District Secretariat until 12:00 noon.
Placing of deposits from candidates for the Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha Election commenced on 26 August.
The term of the Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha, effective from November 2019, ended on 06 March 2024, after the budget was defeated for the fourth consecutive time.
Since the budget was defeated for the fourth time, as per the Local Council Act, a Special Commissioner took over.
However, on August 26, 2024, the National Election Commission announced the schedule for the Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha election.
The Election Commission is taking necessary measures to conduct the Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha election soon after the conclusion of the Presidential Election. (Newswire)
