The Minister of Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation, Bimal Rathnayake, along with the Defence Secretary, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd), undertook an inspection tour of the Central Bus Stand in Colombo today (June 16). The visit was aimed at reviewing plans for the upcoming renovation of this vital public transport hub.
The renovation project forms part of the broader ‘Clean Sri Lanka initiative’, which seeks to enhance infrastructure while promoting cleanliness and sustainability in key public spaces across the country. The responsibility for executing the renovation has been entrusted to the Sri Lanka Air Force, known for its engineering excellence and commitment to national development projects.
The Central Bus Stand, serving as one of the busiest transit points in Colombo, is set to undergo a comprehensive facelift that will improve commuter facilities and operational efficiency. With a strong focus on user-friendliness and environmental standards, the project is expected to greatly benefit daily passengers and the city’s transport infrastructure as a whole.
