National People’s Power (NPP) presidential candidate Anura Kumara Dissanayake has responded to President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s claims that an NPP-led government could further damage Sri Lanka’s economy.
Dissanayake argued that the economy has already collapsed, pointing to critical issues like the shortage of medication, unemployment, and the exodus of youth seeking jobs abroad.
“We are already a country without medicine in hospitals, where youth can’t find jobs, and fishermen can’t take their boats to sea. Farmers aren’t earning from agriculture, and businesses are stuck, unable to repay loans. Where else is there for Ranil to take this economy? It has already fallen” Anura Kumara Dissanayake said.
The NPP is coming to power not to push it further down, but to lift this collapsed nation back up” he added.
The NPP leader emphasized that the party’s goal is to rebuild the nation’s crumbling economy, blaming Wickremesinghe for accumulating an unsustainable $12.5 billion in sovereign debt.
He also criticized opposition leader Sajith Premadasa, accusing him of endorsing the sale of national assets like the Hambantota Port, despite Premadasa’s current attempts to distance himself from such decisions.
Anura Kumara Dissanayake urged the public to recognize that both Wickremesinghe and Premadasa are responsible for Sri Lanka’s economic downfall and reaffirmed the NPP’s commitment to rebuilding the country. (Newswire)
