The Government of Sri Lanka has announced an increase in the monthly allowances provided under the Aswesuma Welfare benefit scheme.
Government Spokesman Minister Nalinda Jayatissa announced that the benefits provided under the general category for 800,000 recipients have been increased from Rs. 8,500 to Rs. 10,000.
Addressing Parliament today, he further said that benefits provided under the most vulnerable category for 400,000 recipients have been increased from Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 17,500.
Minister Jayatissa also announced that the Cabinet has approved the extension of Aswesuma allowances for vulnerable persons under two phases.
He said that benefits for 400,000 vulnerable persons which was to end on December 31, 2024, have been extended for a year.
The Cabinet Spokesman added that benefits for another 400,000 recipients which were to end on December 31, 2024, have been extended until March 31, 2025. (Newswire)
