Australia A includes Spinner with Sri Lankan Background

Zanden Jeh, a 21-year-old left-arm orthodox spinner from Brisbane, has been named in the Australia A squad to face Sri Lanka A in a five-match series in Darwin next month.

Jeh, who has yet to make his first-class debut, was born and raised in Australia but has deep Sri Lankan roots. His father, Michael Jeh, was born in Colombo in 1968. After leaving Sri Lanka at age 15, he played first-class cricket in England for Oxford University and the MCC before settling in Australia.

Jeh said Sri Lankan great Rangana Herath, also a left-arm spinner, was his childhood cricketing idol. His selection comes after strong domestic performances, including a five-wicket haul in a Second XI match and the dismissal of international batter Glenn Maxwell.

He is the only specialist spinner selected for the tour and is set to receive further development support with a stint at the MRF Academy in Chennai following the series.
