Australia name squad for Sri Lanka tour: One key change

Interim captain appointed and potential debutant named in Australia’s 16-player squad for Sri Lanka Test series.

Steve Smith has been named as interim captain as Australia announce their 16-player squad for their two-Test tour of Sri Lanka, beginning on January 29.

Smith leads the team in the absence of Pat Cummins, who both on paternity leave and dealing with a slight ankle issue that was managed during the recent home summer.

There is a first Test squad call-up for former Australia U19 Cricket World Cup captain Cooper Connolly, while fellow youngster Nathan McSweeney has been recalled despite missing the Melbourne and Sydney Tests in the recent Border-Gavaskar Series.
